Course Description
Exploration of the Islamic religious traditions: the life of Islam’s founder, the development of its teaching and ritual, its spread from North Africa into Europe, Asia, Oceania, its influence on culture and its contemporary resurgence
Course Goals:
- To gain basic understanding of Islamic religious traditions, core beliefs, and practices.
- To gain an understanding and appreciation of diversity within the Islamic tradition.
- To understand the role of culture both in the understanding and practice of basic tenets of the religion of Islam.
- To gain an appreciation of Islamic jurisprudence of the four legal schools.
- To foster an appreciation for inter-religious dialogue.
